PLEASE... DON'T GO!
A Child's Perspective on Divorce
Based on a True Story
By Karla Lee
What happens in the heart of a child when the family they have always known suddenly changes?
Please... Don't Go! is a heartfelt and deeply moving story told through the eyes of a child experiencing the pain, confusion, and uncertainty of separation and divorce. Based on a true story, this beautifully illustrated book gives children a voice when they often struggle to find the words to express what they are feeling.
As parents navigate the challenges of separation, children are frequently left carrying questions they cannot answer:
"Was it something I did?"
"Do Mum and Dad still love me?"
"Will things ever feel normal again?"
"Please... don't go."
Through gentle storytelling, this book helps children understand that they are loved, valued, and never responsible for the choices adults make. It opens the door for meaningful conversations between parents and children, providing comfort, reassurance, and hope during one of life's most difficult transitions.
Written by Karla Lee, founder of Voice 4 Kids, drawing on decades of advocacy for children affected by family separation, this powerful story shines a light on the emotional world of children whose voices are often unheard.
Whether you are a parent, grandparent, counsellor, teacher, pastor, or support worker, Please... Don't Go! is a valuable resource that encourages empathy, healing, and connection.
Because every child deserves to know:
"You are loved. You are not to blame. And you are never alone."
Is It My Fault? is an illustrated companion book to Please Don’t Go! by Karla Lee. It features a collection of four separate, fully illustrated stories designed for children aged 4 to 12. This book aims to help children understand and navigate changes within their family, such as when a parent leaves the home or when a stepparent becomes part of the family.
Karla Lee created this book to encourage parents to take a positive approach to communicating with their children during challenging times. To complement the stories, she also designed Counselling Puppet Dolls, which can be used as tools to further engage and support children.
